SFUSD encourages students to be in school every day and we are committed to keeping them safe and fostering learning. We recognize that there are times when students and their families may choose to participate in activities such as demonstrations or strikes outside of school during the regular school day. While we respect and support our students' rights to express their views, please note that participation in a demonstration, walkout or strike will not be counted as an excused absence.

So close, yet so far away.  From 1910 to 1940, many Angel Island Immigration Station immigrants experienced these feelings upon reaching America, but were detained from entering San Francisco.  On May 7, 2017 (12:00-3:00), the San Francisco Public Library Main Library will celebrate Asian Pacific Islander American Heritage Month by spotlighting personal immigrant stories from those who went through Angel Island.

Look forward to educational games and craft activities for all ages, a display of Angel Island family histories, books, news articles, and photos. The first 50 children ages 12 and under will receive a goody bag.

Co-sponsors: the Asian American Studies Department at San Francisco State University, TACT (The Association of Chinese Teachers), the Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation, and the Square and Circle Club.
